Holiday travels to ramp up this weekend

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – We are days away from Christmas, which means holiday travel is going to be extremely busy this weekend. Despite those challenges, it is important to remember safety and guidelines to make your travels much better this upcoming weekend.

“With more people being on the road. You’re sharing the roadways with more people,” said Sgt. Jesse Grabow of the Minnesota State Patrol. “It just has more opportunities to create more things to happen. Such as crashes, things like that. So with that being said everybody still needs to take their time. Allow more room for travel.”

Many people will hit the Interstates to get to their destinations. And even though we’ve had a mild winter, it’s important to remember roadway safety according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

“Distracted driving, driving too fast, impaired driving and not wearing a seat belt. Even though yourself might be a very good driver. You are sharing the roadways with other people making some of those poor choices,” said Sgt. Grabow. “So, just by paying attention and not being distracted yourself can make all the difference in the world in preventing another crash from occurring.”

But what about those hitting the airports? That will surely be extremely busy as people get some last minute flights.

“We always advise people to get here at least two hours early before departure time and get through the checkpoint as quickly as you can and hopefully you can have an enjoyable flight.” said Executive Director of the Fargo Airport Authority, Shawn Dobberstein.

Shawn Dobberstein has some advice for those that are flying this weekend to make it more relaxing for you.

“Whether you pack a check bag or a carry-on bag, we always tell you to pack a bag of patience as well. We always advise people to get TSA pre-check which expedites your processing through the checkpoint.” said Dobberstein.

Even though we’ve been having good weather, it’s a reminder to be safe when traveling regardless if there is no snow on the roadways.
