School is back in session: The new Moorhead High School opens

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – It’s an exciting time in Moorhead as school is back in session, and it’s in a new building for the high school. This new facility is state of the art, providing students and staff a bright new start to the 2024 year.

“I’ll be honest, I’ve said it before. Between the career academy and this building I know we’re spoiled,” said Moorhead High School Principal Josh Haag. “That’s the way I feel it. I feel like I am spoiled to be able to work with facilities this nice. I would have never guessed that I would have been able to work in something like this. This is a real blessing for us to be able to have this facility and be able to do that.”

But it didn’t come with its own challenges, as they had two and a half weeks to move everything over from the old school to the new one.

“It’s been a lot of late nights, a lot of people working hard to get this ready for today. But we’re ready for students. It’s super exciting, it’s been a long time coming.” said Steve Moore, the executive director of operations for Moorhead Public Schools.

The move was needed, because of issues at the old school. Roof leaks and less space were just among the many reasons why the new facility was built.

“Biggest difference is just the visibility,” said Haag. “Just being able to see when you come in here you’ve got windows. You’ve got glass, you can see outside. Just that openness, that air. The ability to see what is going on, the daylight. All of that. We didn’t have that for a long time, especially in the old building. It’s really exciting just to see how different the atmosphere is here.”

According to the school district, this new school can have up to 2,400 students in the building.
