Great Plains Food Bank receives close to $100,000 in donation from Hornbacher’s
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The Great Plains Food Bank received a huge donation Wednesday from Hornbacher’s to help with their operations. The $98,991 came from the Feed Hope campaign, which ran during December.
“Never ceases to amaze me what our community does for those in need,” said Matt Leiseth, the president of Hornbacher’s. “When they see that there is a need and food insecurity is a need that has not gone away yet. Our customers at Hornbacher’s just continue to step up and support our community.”
According to Melissa Sobolik, the CEO at the food bank, the funds will help with transporting food to families. The money that is coming to them will help with many facets of their operations.
“Since COVID our food supplies have gone down and so we have had to procure more food by purchasing it,” said Melissa Sobolik. “This is also going to help us truck it across the entire state to make sure that no one in our community and our entire state is going hungry. So it is going to go to not only cover those food costs but our trucking costs.”
Sobolik knows it means a lot to help those in need. Something that stems from her childhood on the farmlands.
“As someone who grew up on a farm and our role was growing food to feed the country. It’s really, really important to me to know that everyone has access to food and that they can eat and that they live in a state that cares enough to make sure everyone has food on their table.”
Since the campaign started in 2011, nearly $1 million has been raised through Feed Hope.
