Fargo School Board Members Vote 6-2 Against Giving Themselves a Raise

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Fargo School Board members vote against giving themselves a 50% raise.
The vote at Tuesday night’s board meeting was six against and two in favor of the raise.
The only two voting for the raise were Greg Clark and Jim Johnson.
The Planning Committee had approved a recommendation to increase board member compensation from $1,000 per month to $1,500 per month starting July 1 to keep up with inflation.
An additional $50 per month for the duties of board president was dropped from the motion before it was voted on.
There was some concern voiced over the timing and public perception while others were concerned that the additional money would take away from funding a teaching position.
The board has been paid $1,000 a month since 2009.
In 2016, it approved and then rescinded an increase to its compensation.
