LIVE: Breadsmith & Fat Tuesday’s Iconic Dessert
Today is Mardi Gras. It says something about a holiday when it has its own dessert attached to it
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Today is Mardi Gras. It says something about a holiday when it has its own dessert attached to it.
Breadsmith of Fargo has been busy serving up the iconic king cake for the last two weeks.
The Fat Tuesday dessert is a braided cake flavored with citrus and covered in icing.
Each cake comes with a tiny plastic baby that people are encouraged to hide in the cake.
According to tradition, whoever gets the baby in their cake has to buy the desserts the next time.
Breadsmith owner Jason Aamodt says food makes those kinds of holiday traditions all the more fun.
He adds, “I always feel that good family time leads to eating, you know, and eating good food. Hanging out with people that you want to hang out with. It’s always a good time.”
Breadsmith is open with plenty of king cakes until 6 p.m. on Mardi Gras at the corner of 17th St. and 32nd Ave. S. in Fargo.
Aamodt says you might be able to snag some king cakes after Mardi Gras as long as supplies last.
