Update: Inmate death in Crookston ruled a suicide

CROOKSTON, Minn. (KVRR) — An inmate’s death at Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston has been ruled a suicide.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the jail around 9 o’clock on February 14th for an unresponsive inmate, 51-year-old Matthew Bagley.

Bagley was taken to Riverview ER in Crookston and was later pronounced dead.

The body was taken to UND Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy, which concluded that Bagley’s cause of death had been suicide by hanging.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office’s case is closed, but an internal investigation by the Minnesota Department of Corrections remains ongoing.
