Mapleton, North Dakota mayor arrested, charged in crash that seriously injured passenger

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KVRR) – The mayor of Mapleton, North Dakota has been arrested following a crash that severely injured a passenger in a truck he was driving on Sunday near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Thirty-five-year-old Andrew Draeger is charged with two counts of felony criminal vehicular operation.

Court documents say Becker County deputies responded to a crash Sunday afternoon at 4:04 p.m. at Detroit Mountain Recreation Area.

The complaint says a female passenger in the truck was severely injured and appeared unconscious. The victim suffered a fractured neck and back.

A witness said a pickup was speeding towards him, took the curve at a fast speed and crashed into trees and a rock.

Draeger told deputies that he had four beers. His blood-alcohol level was 0.141.

Messages were left for Draeger and Mapleton City Council members, but they were not immediately available.
