Buxton Man Gets Probation In Final Ruling in Crop Insurance Fraud Case

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A crop insurance fraud case comes to an end with the sentence of a potato farmer in U.S. District Court in Fargo.

59-year-old Darren Tronson of Buxton, North Dakota was sentenced to one year of probation for concealing a material fact in a government case.

It was the final pending case against Tronson and his potato farming operation in Grand Forks and Traill Counties, which included one criminal and three civil cases.

He will forgo a $272.000 crop insurance payment for 2019 and pay $10,000 in restitution to the U.S. in connection with the settlement of his 2017 and 2018 potato claims.

He is also barred from participating in all federal programs for ten years.
