Demolition has begun on old Moorhead High School
MOORHEAD (KVRR) – There is a lot of history and pride connected to the old Moorhead High School, as people say goodbye as crews have started taking down the building. Piece by piece the old school is being torn down as demolition began Tuesday.
Moorhead High was constructed in 1967, and has been a part of the community for over 56 years. But after years of constant maintenance to keep it up and other factors, it was time to move on.
“As facilities change we start to embrace a new facility in the future. The legacy of Moorhead High School lives on in so many, thousands of alumni that live here in the community. As well as in the region and around the world.” said Brenda Richman of Moorhead Area Public Schools.
This has been a long process to get to this point and the demo crews are glad to get out there and do their jobs. This project will take a couple of months to be completed according to Naylor, who many people had a hand in getting this off the ground. It also helps that this winter has been mild and we are experiencing warmer temps here in March.
“It’s actually pretty nice. We had roughly two months of decommissioning which is pretty much getting the building ready for this point. So it’s nice that it’s all said and done and now we actually get to the point where everyone is excited about. And that is wrecking the building.” said Ben Naylor, the construction manager.
Moorhead Public Schools says some bricks from the school are going to be sold through the Moorhead Legacy Education Foundation.
