FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The PRCA Championship Rodeo is in town this weekend. Going to the rodeo is a tradition for a lot of families. So is taking part.
Along with all the professional riders competing, you’ll also see trick riders. They are sisters 17-year-old Kate Flitton and 12-year-old Tera Flitton.
They travel to rodeos all around the western United States showing off amazing tricks on top of, and sometimes on the sides of horses.
Their father, Cody Flitton has spent his life working in the rodeo. In fact, his family has done so for the past 70 years. His daughters are the 5th generation of his family to join the rodeo industry, something that makes this father immensely proud.
He adds, “Now that my daughters are performing it’s overwhelming. It’s wonderful to have such a family heritage and have my legacy and everything continuing on with my girls. I’m sure that my great-grandfather and grandfather in heaven are looking down and they’re proud too.”
Trick riding has its origins in military strategy. You can catch the Flitton sisters along with the rest of the rodeo at 7:30 Friday and Saturday night at the Fargodome. Click here for ticket info.
