GoFundMe Started To Save A 3rd Grade Classroom in Thief River Falls

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. (KVRR) — Concerns about budget cuts at Thief River Falls Public Schools has resulted in a crowdfunding campaign for Challenger Elementary School.
A GoFundMe was set up with permission from the school district as long as it was set up by a non-district employee.
It was started by the wife of a technology teacher who says all funds donated will go directly to the Challenger Elementary School “Fund a Classroom” Fundraiser.
They will even provide documentation of the funds being transferred to the district.
The goal is $70,000 to fund one third grade classroom for one year.
Challenger could lose as many as five teaching positions due to budget cuts.
The school is also selling student designed and engraved tumblers as part of the fundraiser.
District leaders say they have cut spending by $2.7 million since 2017 due to inadequate state funding.
They face a $3.3 million deficit by the 2026-2027 school year.
