UPDATE: Freez and Parents Respond To Firing of Worker Over $100 Tip

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR:5:30PM UPDATE) — A large tip and alleged firing at Moorhead Freez has set off a firestorm on social media.
In a Facebook post Sunday, Seth and Lisa Swenson say their daughter, Emily, was recently let go because a customer put $100 in the tip jar and drove away.
They say their daughter had told the customer that she couldn’t accept the tip.
The Freez has a policy that it’s a violation to accept bills over $20 as payment, according to the Swensons.
Lorraine Moore, owner of The Freez, gave Emily a warning notice saying some customers are elderly and could be dealing with dementia and that “no one in their right frame of mind tips $100 at a place where every menu item is under $12.”
In a response this afternoon on social media, Moore says she did not terminate the adult at will employee of 5 years for accepting a tip and says “there’s more to the story” and questioned why the adult’s parents were posting on her behalf.
We reached out to the Swensons who said they appreciate everyone’s interest in their story and the support everyone has shown Emily.
They say she is ready to move on and wishes nothing but the best for her friends at the Moorhead Freez.
