The Chamber Hosts Candidate Forum for Fargo City Commission Race

Forum 051424

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Candidates for Fargo City Commission get another chance to talk about the issues facing the community.

Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce hosted the candidate forum at Fargo City Hall.

It was held in partnership with Building Industry Association of the Red River Valley and Downtown Community Partnership.

Five of the seven candidates running for two seats on the commission attended the forum.

The top issues included helping the homeless, workforce challenges and the potential impact of a proposal to eliminate property taxes in North Dakota.

“I think it sounds like a wonderful idea, not having property taxes, who wants to pay taxes? It would be great not to have specials but the money has to come from somewhere,” said Fargo City Commission candidate Michelle Turnberg.

“The last place that your property tax should be decided from is Bismarck. And they would be the largest board of directors in the state of North Dakota,” said Al Carlson who is making another run for Fargo City Commission.

Others at the forum were John Strand and Arlette Preston, who are both running for re-election, and Delson Saintal.

Anna Johnson and Nathan Pullen did not attend.

A West Fargo City Commission Forum will be held tomorrow from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the West Fargo City Commission Chambers.

It will include all five candidates: Tyler Erickson, Rory Jorgensen, DeAnn Reed, John Severson and Amy Zundel.

The election is June 11.
