Crookston Police officers fatally shot a man early Thursday morning after the man threatened them with a hatchet

CROOKSTON, MINN. (KFGO/KVRR) – Crookston Police officers fatally shot a man early Thursday morning after the man threatened them with a hatchet.
Police found the man who was swinging a hatchet in the area of East 7th Street. As he approached them, officers used less-lethal weapons to try to stop him, however, he continued to advance police with the hatchet and he was shot.
Officers provided life-saving measures but the man later died at the hospital.
The Crookston Police Department has asked the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate the incident.
This is an ongoing active criminal investigation and no further details will be released.
This is an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety.
