Admiral from Oakes, N.D. Keynotes Memorial Day Services at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery
MANDAN, N.D. (KVRR) — North Dakota National Guard hosted a ceremony to honor all American servicemen and women who died while serving.
It was held at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan.
Among the speakers were Gov. Doug Burgum, North Dakota National Guard Adjutant General Al Dohrmann.
And the keynote speaker was a North Dakota native from Oakes.
Admiral Stuart Munsch is the commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and commander of Allied Joint Force Command, Naples.
“We have two occasions where we recognize veterans each year. Specific days. Veteran’s Day in November recognized all who have served in uniform. Memorial Day today recognizes all who served in uniform and gave their life for their nation,” said Admiral Munsch.
In honor of the day, Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park offered free admission to military members, veterans, and their families.
The first Memorial Day observance at the veterans cemetery was held in 1993.
