Sen. Hoeven Encourages Action on Farm Bill as Framework is Released

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVRR) — A framework has been released for the ongoing farm bill negotiations.

Sen. John Hoeven says it strengthens the farm safety net, improves crop insurance affordability, expands producer access to credit and keeps conservation programs voluntary and farmer-friendly.

It also increases premium subsidies for the Supplemental Coverage Option to 80% and raises the top coverage level to 90%.

It also aligns with the GOP-led House bill.

“This year we’re looking at lower farm net income. Ah, they’re looking at record higher input costs. Obviously inflation and high interest rates put a real squeeze on their operations,” said Hoeven.

The North Dakota Republican is Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee and a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

The last farm bill was passed in 2018 and expired last year but has been given a one year extension through September.
