Walz, Klobuchar Take Aerial Tour of Flooding in Minnesota
ST. PAUL (KVRR) — Saying “we are not out of the woods yet”, Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. Amy Klobuchar give an update on flooding in the state.
Walz and Klobuchar were joined by the ag commissioner and public safety commissioner for an aerial tour of flooding.
One of the hardest hit areas is Waterville in Le Sueur County where a number of homes have taken on water.
The county passed a resolution declaring a state of emergency.
Around 40 National Guard soldiers are in the city manning pump stations to protect infrastructure.
An area of concern yesterday was the Rapidan Dam which appears to be holding.
“The fact that no one has died yet when you look at that water when you look at that dam, um, that people have been following the rules and it’s frustrating I know. Some of these roads are closed down,” said Klobuchar.
“We’re not out of the woods yet, water levels are still rising. We don’t have the National Weather Service folks with us but we have not reached peak water levels in many of these communities yet so that is going to add to this,” said Walz.
He says damage assessments will begin in the north and spread to the southern part of the state.
