Drowning rescue on Little Detroit Lakes

UPDATE: Authorities have identified the victim as Sterling Buchholz, 24, of Fargo. His condition is still unknown.

 

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KFGO/KVRR) – The Becker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report on Saturday at 3:26 PM that a 24-year-old man had been swimming from shore and had gone under the water in the area of Zorbaz, or the 400 block of West Lake Drive, on Little Detroit Lake in the city of Detroit Lakes.

Emergency personnel from the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, Detroit Lakes Police Department, MN DNR Conservation Office, Becker County Dive Team, and St. Mary’s EMS responded to the scene. When responders arrived, a search had already begun from citizens on scene and the man was located a couple of minutes later by a citizen.

The man was unresponsive and not breathing. He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes and has been transported to a Fargo area hospital. His current condition is unknown.

This incident is under investigation by the Becker County Sheriff’s Office. The name of the individual is being withheld until family notifications can occur.
