North Dakota National Guard Change of Command Ceremony Held in Bismarck

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — North Dakota National Guard officially has a new leader.

A change of command ceremony was held in Bismarck as Air Force Brig. Gen. Mitchell Johnson becomes adjutant general of the guard.

He takes command from Army Maj. Gen. Alan Dohrmann, who served in the position for more than eight years, and is retiring after four decades of military service.

Johnson began his military career in 1997.

When he left active duty, he joined the North Dakota National Guard as a pilot for MQ-1 Predator, C-21, and MQ-9 Reaper aircraft.

“Through his 12 years in the Air Force and his 15 years in the National Guard, Mitch has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills at all levels. And these skills and experiences both at home and abroad, as you heard 6 tours overseas serving in combat,” said Gov. Doug Burgum.

Dohrmann was honored after the ceremony with a retirement party.
