LISBON, N.D. (KVRR) — A Lisbon, North Dakota man who threatened to kill his dad over a bottle of nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is given a suspended sentence.

31-year-old Hunter Mairs pleaded guilty last week to four counts: terrorizing, simple assault, interference with an emergency call and drug paraphernalia.

The judge sentenced him to a year behind bars but gave him credit for 14 days already served and then suspended the sentence for two years.

Mairs will have to undergo a chemical dependency evaluation and be on supervised probation for two years.

Court records show Mairs had been using marijuana, Adderall, and nitrous oxide and causing disturbances in the family home for weeks before he was arrested in late August.

His parents also found a pistol on the couch.
