Churches United Continues To Face Financial Hardship And Asks Community For Support

MOORHEAD, Minn (KVRR) — Churches United is faced with the possibility of having to close its doors by the end of November. In August, the organization hired Pastor Devlyn Brooks to help keep the organization afloat.

“We have an immediate need, and there’s the long-term need. We’re still in that immediate need. And until we can ensure that we are keeping our doors open it’s really hard to find donors that want to come in and help us establish a permanent funding source.

Recently, Brooks and his team at Churches United decided to let go of part of the admin team to build up that financial stability.

“We looked at two criteria, is a position tied to funding that we receive. And secondarily is that position tied directly to the care of our guests.”

Brooks says even though the cuts will not help keep the facility opened, it’s something that has to be done. The team has helped over 120 people just at the Churches United facility. From providing food, helping with case management, and providing help with permanent housing. Brooks says that without help, the city will have to do it themselves.

“They either help paying for these support of the services now or you’re going to be paying for multiple on the backend.”

Brooks hopes to raise the funds necessary to keep all their services open, but if they cannot they will need to close Dorothy Day Food Pantry and their emergency shelter, Micah’s Mission.
