Corwin Automotive in process of acquiring Muscatell Subaru
The Subaru franchise has been owned by the Muscatells since 1996.

UPDATE: Muscatell Subaru confirmed the sale by posting to its Facebook page.
“Ward Muscatell Subaru, Muscatell Pre-Owned, and the Muscatell Collision Center will be changing ownership on Monday. The Corwin Automotive Group will be acquiring the Moorhead campus. Most of the staff will be staying in place and the transition is already under way.”

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – Corwin Automotive appears to be in the process of purchasing Muscatell Subaru in Moorhead.
Documents obtained from the Minnesota Secretary of State show an application for a business named Corwin Subaru with a filing date of December 4, 2024.
The applicant is listed as “CSMHD LLC”, with the address of 201 40th St. S., the Corwin Honda location. The registered agent is Daniel M. Wilson, the CFO of Corwin.
Both companies have long histories in the region.
Charles Barthel owned and operated Barthel Chevrolet in Mandan, North Dakota. His son, Tom Muscatell, opened Muscatell Chevrolet on Main Avenue in Fargo back in 1960. Tom’s son Ward acquired the Subaru franchise in 1996.
Corwin Automotive Group has been in business for over 100 years and currently has 17 locations across the country including North Dakota, Nebraska, Nevada, Missouri, Idaho, Colorado, Montana and Washington.
Multiple sources indicate employees of the companies were told about the acquisition earlier this week.
Company representatives haven’t responded to requests for comment.
