City Officials Want to Make Sure You Are Safe On The Road

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — The winter storm warning went into effect Wednesday evening with an expected 7 inches to come in some areas and wind gusts blowing until Thursday evening.

“We started hitting the arterials last night a little bit after midnight, one o’clock and we were concentrating on all the snow emergency routes since then. And if it continues to snow like it has overnight and this morning then all we do is start over again on the snow emergency routes,” said Corey Houim, Fargo Public Works Service Manager.

Last year, Fargo barely saw as much snow, but John Bernstrom with the City of Grand Forks, said that we all need to prepare ourselves for this storm.

“This is our first significant snow of 2024 and frankly last winter we didn’t get a lot of snow at all, so it’s our first significant snow in a couple of years and even though you may have lived up here your entire life, it always takes a second to remember how to move around in this weather,” said John Bernstrom, Public Information Officer for the City of Grand Forks.

City Plows worked early this morning on their six emergency snow routes and were finished by noon. While they are continuously working on the streets they want to make sure your car is out of their way.

“Some of the streets will get so narrow that we can’t even get our equipment down, so we have to plow over the pickup with the boss’ plow. So it is critical that everybody does obey the parking restrictions and if there’s no parking on one side please obey that. And if there is parking restrictions in the inner core please follow that,” said Houim.

If you live in the downtown area, plows will be running through Sunday evening into Tuesday evening.
