Keep That Furnace Running: Home Heating Safety Tips
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — While we’re smack dab in the winter season, home furnaces and heaters are hopefully working to keep you warm.
Laney’s Plumbing and Heating says one of the most important things to do each year is have your furnace serviced by a qualified technician.
Replace the furnace’s filter so it doesn’t have to work harder than it needs to to get warm air throughout your home.
Many homes now have PVC pipes that come out of the side of the home to direct the furnace’s exhaust outside.
“If you’re doing all that, you should be pretty safe in your house. But we always recommend having a carbon monoxide detector, smoke detector, just for added safety,” said Joel Carlson, Laney’s Inc. Sales and Installation Manager.
You should also make sure your furnace isn’t turning off after only a minute or two.
This is called short cycling and can be due to poor airflow or faulty components.
