Fargo Police Officer Tyler Hawes Returns To Duty 19 Months After Fatal Shooting Ambush

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Fargo Police Officer Tyler Hawes is back on duty.

He was seriously injured in the July 14, 2023 ambush on officers on 25th Street South in Fargo.

A well-armed man opened fire on Hawes, Andrew Dotas, Zachary Robinson and Jake Wallin during a routine traffic crash investigation.

Wallin was killed.

“The return of Officer Hawes is a moment of healing and resilience for our department and our entire community,” said Chief David Zibolski. “Tyler’s dedication, perseverance and commitment to service are a testament to his character and the support system that has surrounded him during this difficult journey.”

Dotas is currently in reintegration training as he prepares to return to duty in the near future.

Robinson has received a number of awards including Officer of the Year for his heroic actions that day.
