A 10-Year-Old Dilworth Resident Starts Petition To Bring Chickens To Households

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — With egg prices still on the rise, one ten-year-old in Dilworth wants to help her family save some money.
Ariel Olson started a petition on Change.org titled, “Allow Dilworth City Residents to Keep Chickens Within Confined Property Boundaries.”
Although cities like Fargo and Moorhead have allowed residents to choose to have their own chickens, Dilworth has not.
According to Dilworth ordinances, chickens and other livestock cannot be kept within the limits of the city other than by certain veterinarians.
Persons who violate the order could face a sentence up to 90 days or $1,000 fine.
“So we know where the food is coming from and a lot of people are struggling with the amount of prices for the eggs. I want chickens and then my friend’s dad wants chickens. A lot of people I know want chickens and they all live in Dilworth,” said Ariel Olson, Petition Starter.
Ariel will be meeting with the Dilworth mayor and attending a City Hall meeting to present her petition.
