MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — The new space taking over the site of the former Moorhead Center Mall will be called, “The Loop.”

In a post to social media, the city of Moorhead says “this dynamic new space will serve as a hub for knowledge, innovation, and community engagement.”

Not only will it contain the new Moorhead Public Library, there will also be an indoor walking loop, year-round playground and Spark Center.

Mayor Shelly Carlson says, “The Loop reflects the combination of community center features with the public library in one incredible building. The Moorhead Public Library will maintain its identity in the location while offering expanded amenities. The Loop is a fun play on words to encourage people to gather, learn and stay “in the Loop” in Downtown Moorhead. Plus, there’s a beautiful walking loop around the interior of the second floor to keep us active year-round!”

The city says “The Loop” will be a 48,000 square foot multi-use public space serving as a central hub for families, businesses, and individuals of all ages and abilities. The space is set to open in the spring of 2026.
