Project Leaders Discuss Future of West 94 Area with West Fargo Residents

The previously uninhabitable area could see major changes after the completion of the diversion project.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR)  — West Fargo is one of the fastest-growing cities in North Dakota, having added an estimated 15,000 people since 20-10.

But while its expansion may seem boundless . . . experts say it’s been running out of space as of late.

“There’s only so much land, actually, to grow in West Fargo,” explained Dan Farnsworth, a transportation planner with MetroCog.

“They’ve actually hit some limits there. Because you have Fargo to one direction, you have Horace to another, you have the diversion to the other.”

That’s why a certain 2.5 square miles of land is so crucial.

The West 94 area, as it’s being called, could be ready for development as soon as 2027 when the Diversion Project is complete.

To make sure they’re making plans in accordance with the wishes of West Fargoans, project leaders held an informational session and open house at the Rustad Center.

They say that community feedback is critical at this early stage of conception.

“There’s so much time to refine, tweak, and move these [plans] forward,” explained Mike Bittner, senior transportation project manager for Bolton & Menk.
