11th Annual High School Welding Contest

Over 20 high school welders turned out to compare their skills against one another and bring home prizes for their respective programs.

FARGO, N.D. – Sparks flew, and iron melded with iron. But the ones operating the welding torches might not be those you expect.

Twenty-seven teenagers converged on the Lynnes Welding Training facility on 3rd Avenue North.

Instructors say they’re always passionate about their craft, but putting it in competition form just gives it a little extra oomph.

“When kids know they’re going to be competing against other kids, there’s that adrenaline rush,” said welding instructor Jeff Schneider from the Moorhead Career Academy.

Everyone who competed received a prize of some sort – but the winners in each category received a special welding machine to take back to their high school programs.
