UPDATE: Arrest Made Following Murders on Spirit Lake Reservation, Three Dead

ST. MICHAEL, N.D. (KVRR) — A shooting in St. Michael, North Dakota has left three members of Spirit Lake Tribe dead.

The tribe was notified of the shootings around 9:30 a.m. by Bureau of Indian Affairs and the suspect was taken into custody around 1:20 p.m.

The suspect’s identity has not been released.

The tribal council has issued administrative leave for all tribal employees.

The shelter in place order has been lifted.

The tribe is also not releasing the names of those involved in the deadly incident as the investigation continues.

SPIRIT LAKE RESERVATION, N.D. (KVRR-KFGO) – There’s word of an arrest in a murder on the Spirit Lake Reservation in northeastern North Dakota.

A law enforcement source confirmed the arrest, but did not provide any more information.

State Radio Communications in Bismarck had issued an alert to law enforcement Tuesday morning to be on the lookout for the suspect and the car he may be driving. The hospital in Devils Lake had been placed on lockdown.

The Minneapolis field office of the FBI says it was aware of what it called a “situation” on the reservation. The tribal council had urged residents to shelter in place.

FARGO (KVRR-KFGO) – A search is underway for a murder suspect after what the Spirit Lake Tribal Council describes as an incident within the boundaries of the reservation south of Devils Lake.

Law enforcement sources say the suspect is believed to be armed. The hospital in Devils Lake was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning as the search got underway.

The tribal council advised residents to shelter in place until further notice and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

The FBI field office in Minneapolis has not provided any details.
