Moorhead mayor congratulates MSUM on Championship win

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson got a chance to congratulate MSUM on their NSIC championship win in men’s basketball.

Carlson met with head coach Tim Bergstraser at a ceremony honoring the team at the Hjemkomst Center on Tuesday, March 11.

She got a chance to hold the trophy, and was given an assortment of hats and jerseys.

MSUM won the championship against Minot State University 78-66 and Carlson had a friendly wager on the game with the mayor of Minot.

He’ll give her his award winning pickles and tickets to North Dakota State Fair.

Bergstraser says the win has brought a lot of attention to his team.

“We’ve had a ton of people reaching out and just trying to get podcasts or whatever it might be, (things) like that. And just trying to connect and just, you know, get a deeper feeling on just how our program is operating and, you know like I said, just the vibes after we won the championship,” Bergstraser said. “It’s been nice, just overall. The Moorhead Community, a lot of people are loving what we’re doing and, you know, that’s obviously something we take pride in. We want to do it the right way, so any time we can get out, we definitely try to do it.”

MSUM now awaits selections for the NCAA Central Region Tournament.
