City of Moorhead Celebrates New Milestone For Construction of ‘The Loop’

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — A historic moment has taken place in the center of Moorhead. Bringing together the city for its construction of a new community center and public library.
“It’s putting that final piece of the structural puzzle together and people can really start to visualize what that’s going to look like,” said Mayor Shelly Carlson, Moorhead.
The construction of the Loop began last year on June 5 taking the place of the old Herberger’s parking ramp and part of the former Moorhead Center Mall. With the idea of bringing together the community with a hub for knowledge, innovation, and community engagement.
“We started several years ago, just trying to get word about the need for the project and then of course we had to get the word out for the vote for the community to vote for the project. And now it’s been the past couple of years spending time on the design and things like that,” said Megan Krueger, Director at Moorhead Public Library.
When the building is completed, it will include a walking area, indoor playground, a presentation hall, study rooms, and a two-floor library. Replacing the library located off of Main Avenue.
“We’re just really excited to be able to offer services in this new space. It’s definitely needed in the community, certainly wants to see this happen,” said Krueger.
“The people here are choosing Moorhead and it’s really the citizens that make our community great,” said Carlson
The City of Moorhead hopes to have the project completed by the spring of 2026
Members of the community were invited out earlier this week to sign a part of the beam. Mayor Shelly Carlson says she hopes to share her signature with her grandchildren.
