Nichole Rice On Trial in G.F. For Murder of Roommate, Anita Knutson, In Minot in 2007

The prosecution is still in the midst of calling witnesses in an attempt to prove Rice's guilt.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — Nichole Rice stands accused of murdering her roommate, Anita Knutson, in a fit of rage in their apartment near Minot State University back in 2007.

The trial has been moved to Grand Forks, where the prosecution focuses on eliminating other suspects, saying only Rice had the motive and the opportunity, while the defense tries to poke holes in the witnesses’ credibility.

Specifically, they often referenced the fact that the murder took place 17 years ago, and that it can be difficult to recall details from that far back.

Investigators say Rice has always been a person of interest in the case, as numerous members of her social circle mentioned the tension between the pair, and that Rice was desperate to get out of the lease on that apartment.

The defense claims there are other credible suspects for the crime – which is something the prosecution was keen to dispute.

Anita’s remaining family hope to finally get justice for their daughter – while Nichole and her supporters are aiming to clear her of suspicion once and for all.
