GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) — A development timeline for a $450 million potato processing plant in Grand Forks is expected in June or July.

Grand Forks City Administrator Todd Feland says that will happen once Agristo works out details with BNSF Railway and secures a land purchase.

City leaders recently toured the Agristo headquarters in Belgium.

Feland said construction on the plant is expected to begin in 2026 with installation of equipment in 2027.

Production is planned to start in the fall of 2028.

Council member Rebecca Osowski was on the trip and said she wanted to check out the smell saying they don’t want the same problem as they have with Simplot.

“After this trip I really feel confident that if they build what they say that they’re going to build I do not think that we should have issues with the smell,” Osowski told the council.

The project is expected to create between 300 to 350 jobs.
