Police say driver of truck that crashed into Moorhead home was having a medical emergency

MOORHEAD, Minn. — A person having a medical emergency ended up crashing a pickup into a Moorhead home, according to the Moorhead Police Department.
The crash happened at the intersection of Ninth Street North and Second Avenue.
The owner of a nearby business heard the crash and tried to help free the occupants of the vehicle until fire crews arrived.
No one was inside the home at the time of the crash.
Police had to direct traffic as crews worked to get remove the pickup from the scene.
According to police, the driver had tried to pull over, but ended up hitting the gas, sending the truck over the curb, and into the living room of the home.
“From what I’ve heard third hand is the driver was experiencing a medical emergency,” said Sargent Scott Kostohryz. “The passenger told him to pull over. He tried to and in the process, our working assumption is he hit the gas instead of the brake. Because after the crash, the gas was still engaged. So best thing you can do is try to get pulled over in a safe space, but sometimes that is impossible.”
Police say one of the occupants of the truck was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation. The other occupant stayed on scene to speak with police.
There is no estimate on the damages at this time.
