Working groups take Memorial Day Weekend off, will return Tuesday in St. Paul

ST. PAUL (KVRR) –Working groups at the capitol in St. Paul are off this holiday weekend and will return on Tuesday to push through the final budget bills.
“Mr. Chairman we will not be meeting over the weekend. Um, we will meet again on Tuesday and we’ll let you know when,” Sen. Ann Rest, a Democrat from New Hope, told the working group on Omnibus Tax bill on Friday.
Gov. Tim Walz is waiting for the groups to get all of the final pieces in place before he calls a special one-day session to get $66 billion in budget bills passed.
They need to be passed before June 1 since that is when state employees would have to begin preparing for a possible government shutdown.
The regular session ended at the mandated time of 11:59 p.m. last Monday before all of the work was done.
