One Man Dead, Another in Custody in Suspected Lakes-Area DUI Crash

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KVRR) – A man is in custody and another is dead after what sheriff’s officials are calling a drunk driving crash in lakes country Memorial Day.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s office says dispatch got a call about the crash late Tuesday at about 10:45 PM near the intersection of 370th Street and 640th Avenue.

When they got there, deputies discovered a truck on its side in a ditch near the intersection.

They found the body of an 18-year-old man nearby.

He was later identified as Blake Unger.

The driver, Izak Schermerhorn, also 18, was later located and arrested on suspicion of of DWI.

The Sheriff’s office says he’s being held at the Otter Tail county jail facing formal charges of criminal vehicular homicide as well as 4th degree DWI and underage drinking and driving.

The crash is still under investigation.
