Straight Line Winds Cause Extreme Damage in Towns Across North Dakota

PAGE, ND (KVRR) — Friday night June 20, 2025 the sights and sounds of storms sweeping across most of North Dakota and northern Minnesota. By the morning replaced by the sounds of chainsaws as towns start to clean the damage.

“We got the first shot that went through and that didn’t really bother us,” said Page, ND Mayor Jim Heidorn. “We got a little wind and a little rain. But then about midnight just out of nowhere the wind came up and it was anywhere from ninety to one hundred and ten miles an hour and it blew steady for I would say an hour and fifteen, hour and twenty minutes.”

The town of Page, ND was hit very hard with straight line winds toppling grain bins, trees and even derailing a train east of town.

“The first place I looked is I walked around my own place. It didn’t look very good so I figured if this doesn’t look very good the rest of it can’t be very good either. Got up this morning about 5 o’clock and started driving around. Just started calling people. It’s time to go to work,” said Heidorn. “We’ve got a group out of Fargo that came up to help us. I got some more guys coming with some skid steers and trailers. We’re getting the streets cleaned up so at least we can get around right now. We’ll gladly take, like I said right now all we need is a lot of hands. We need to get peoples yards cleaned out. Get the smaller stuff drug out so we can get it with the big equipment. But that’s what we’re looking for right now, is just hands.”
