Protesters Gather Outside Fishbach’s Office After ‘Yes’ Vote on Bill

The demonstration largely focused on potential cuts to Medicaid, but also mentioned the ways it will hurt society as a whole.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – Labor union members and other concerned citizens began their protest outside Rep. Michelle Fischbach’s Moorhead office at about 12:30 on July 9.

Fishbach was one of four Congressional members representing Minnesota who voted yes on President Trump’s budget bill.

Protesters came from all points on the political spectrum – like Jessica Cain, who voted for Trump in the 2024 election.

She says that she relies on Medicaid money to provide proper care for her son with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and she’s frustrated that there seem to be no indication on where the funding will come from now.

“We’re way too focused on what’s happening overseas, which I think is hypocritical to the Trump campaign, because we’re supposed to be putting America first,” Cain explained. “Well, America has questions, and we would like answers.”

Rachel Rennicke is a home healthcare worker in Perham who is similarly unhappy with Rep. Fishbach’s lack of clarification on the matter.

She says that without Medicaid, rural towns like Perham will take a massive economic hit, but more importantly, people in those areas with specialized health needs will not see those met.

“This isn’t something we will just – I believe the quote is, ‘They’ll get over it.’ You don’t get over watching your loved ones suffer and die in front of you,” said Rennicke. “That’s what will be happening to these families.”

Everyone in attendance stressed that this issue is bigger than politics.

At the time of publication, we are still awaiting comment from Rep. Fischbach’s office.
