Thief River Falls, MN man stopped for welfare check, dies in head-on crash with semi near Mahnomen

MAHNOMEN, CO., Minn. (KVRR) — A Thief River Falls, Minnesota man is dead after swerving into the path of an oncoming semi near Mahnomen.
Norman County Sheriff’s deputies say 33-year-old Jerry Redden fled from them this afternoon after they stopped him for a welfare check on a suicidal male.
The pursuit entered Mahnomen County on Highway 200 and then north on Highway 59.
Redden and the semi collided about four miles north of Mahnomen and he died at the scene.
The semi driver was not hurt.
Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash.
