Man in custody after standoff following pursuit in south Moorhead

UPDATE: As of 12:20 pm, a male is in custody and the shelter in place is cleared.

 

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – A shelter-in-place advisory was issued for a south Moorhead neighborhood after a man fled a traffic stop and ran into a house, where a standoff with law enforcement continues.

Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting says law enforcement attempted to stop the car with stop sticks and the suspect took off on foot, ditching a backpack while running away.

Empting says the suspect is inside a house near Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, in the vicinity of 40th Ave. S. & 23rd St. S. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Red River Valley SWAT, is on the scene.

Empting says the suspect has no connection to the two people in the home, who law enforcement got out immediately.

He says the deputies have some history with the suspect but nothing violent.
