Bismarck police chief roles goes to in-house candidate and not Grand Forks city council member

Bismarck, N.D. (KVRR) — A Grand Forks City Council member will not be the next police chief in Bismarck.
Bismarck City Commission has picked Jason Stugelmeyer, a deputy chief with Bismarck Police Department, for the top job.
He has been with the department for 24 years and was one of two finalists along with Danny Weigel who is currently a lieutenant with UND Police and on the Grand Forks City Council representing Ward 1.
Stugelmeyer is a 2000 graduate of MSUM.
He replaces current Bismarck Police Chief Dave Draovitch who is retiring at the end of the month.
