ST. PAUL (KVRR) — Gov. Tim Walz is extending an invitation to Canadians to visit Minnesota.

He says “We want our Canadian neighbors to know they’re not just welcome here — they’re encouraged to visit and continue our long friendship.”

Air and vehicle travel from Canada into the U.S. has dropped dramatically in recent months.

Some attribute that to negative rhetoric towards Canada, high prices, and concerns about border security.

Explore Minnesota is continuing its marketing outreach in Canada with ongoing advertising in Winnipeg and Thunder Bay.

“Whether you’re looking for a relaxing lakeside getaway, a weekend of tax-free shopping, world-class hockey, or a vibrant cultural experience close to home — Minnesota offers it all,” said Lauren Bennett McGinty, Executive Director of Explore Minnesota.
