Moorhead police arrest juvenile suspect of June drive-by shooting

MOORHEAD — Moorhead Police say they arrested a juvenile wanted for involvement in a drive-by shooting June 19.
According to Moorhead police, they pulled over a vehicle in the 500 block of 32nd Ave. S. for an equipment violation.
Police say the driver of the vehicle was 18-year-old Azarel Chappell, Jr. of Moorhead.
They also identified a 17-year-old juvenile passenger in the vehicle, who police say was involved in the June 19th shooting.
As part of that investigation, the Clay County Attorney’s Office charged the juvenile for aiding and abetting the use of a dangerous weapon during a drive-by shooting and issued a nation-wide arrest warrant.
Police searched the vehicle during the traffic stop where they say they found a loaded handgun.
Police seized the gun and it will be tested to determine if it was used in the June 19th shooting.
The juvenile was arrested during the traffic stop for the outstanding warrant, as well as Gross Misdemeanor Carrying a Handgun without a Permit.
Chappell was arrested for offenses unrelated to the shooting: on suspicion of gross misdemeanor carrying a handgun without a permit, and misdemeanor improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
Moorhead police say they are still looking for a second juvenile suspect in the June 19th shooting, as well as a white Chrysler 300 with Minnesota plates EJJ379.
