Local organization hosts an academy dedicated to senior safety

Senior Safety Academy

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — Senior citizens were invited to participate in an academy to enhance their safety.

The Senior Safety Academy was brought together by Valley Triad, a group of organizations, law enforcement agencies, and people dedicated to helping out others in Cass and Clay counties.

It featured various booths and panels of speakers focused on the numerous opportunities and safety precautions people should know.

A Cass County Sheriff’s detective explained that there are still many seniors being impacted by scams, including ones pretending to be law enforcement.

“People are so easily taken advantage of. And for groups that might not have some of the knowledge that younger adults have as far as computers and some of the artificial intelligence, things like that. I think it’s really important for people to know how to protect themselves from losing their money,” said Joe Gress, Detective.

He recommends you contact local authorities if you’re targeted by scam artists.
