MnDOT pauses work statewide to focus on safety after two construction zone workers deaths

ST. PAUL (KVRR) — MnDOT has paused work statewide in recognition of two recent construction zone deaths.
The first contractor was killed in Burnsville on September 24 on southbound I-35W.
A preliminary investigation suggests the contractor was on foot in the construction zone when he was hit by the driver of a construction vehicle equipped with a boom attachment.
The worker died at the scene.
The second contractor was killed in Maple Grove the next day when a dump truck hit him.
He also died at the scene.
MnDOT is taking the day long pause to focus on improving safety in work zones.
Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger says “Safety is always our number one priority”.
