Man arrested after lying in traffic and attacking a deputy near Minto, ND

WALSH CO., N.D. (KVRR) — A Walsh County Sheriff’s deputy was attacked while trying to arrest a man who was found lying in the middle of Highway 81 north of Minto on Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office says 39-year-old Andrew Mattson of St. Thomas was also walking in the middle of heavy traffic and attempting to get into vehicles.

He was ordered to stop several times before he turned and attacked the deputy whose taser failed to deploy.

Mattson was eventually handcuffed and taken to a local hospital for medical clearance before being taken to jail.

Mattson faces numerous charges including terrorizing, preventing arrest and reckless endangerment.

His bond has been set at $50,000 cash.
