FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Colder weather is fast approaching, and many kids and families are without winter gear to keep them warm.

That’s why The Salvation Army held its annual Coats for Kids and Families event at Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo on October 9.

The giveaway ran from 1:00 to 7:00 P.M. and volunteers say more than 400 people or families pre-registered to pick up some clothes.

There were, of course, coats, but also mittens, hats, gloves, and boots.

The Salvation Army says the support they feel this time each year is what makes the event so special.

“The community makes us feel really, really special. Donation wise, we had donations from Scheels this year, we had donations from the community,” explained Tracy Bjerke, Community Engagement Director. “I can’t really put it into words; it almost makes me want to cry because of how loved and how special we feel.”

If you missed the giveaway, The Salvation Army wants you to know you can still get winter gear, free of charge.

Simply call their support line any time after Monday next week.
