UPDATE: Cass County, MN deputy shot and wounded, suspect dead after foot chase in rural Walker, MN

WALKER, Minn. (KVRR) — A man fleeing officers in Turtle Lake Township in rural Walker is dead and a deputy has a gunshot wound and is being treated in a hospital in Fargo.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office says they got a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. after the caller heard shots fired near Old Agency Drive and Onigum Road.

Deputies arrived and tried to make contact with a man who was walking in the 8000 block of Onigum Road Northwest but he fled on foot.

Deputies chased the man and there was an exchange of gunfire.

The deputy that was shot was flown by helicopter to Fargo.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies involved have been placed on critical incident leave during the investigation, which is being handled by Minnesota BCA.

Body worn cameras were utilized and active in this incident.

WALKER, Minn. (KVRR) —  Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is on scene in Walker investigating what they are calling a use-of-force incident.

In a post on X, they say BCA agents and crime scene personnel are currently investigating.

Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police issued a press release saying their thoughts and prayers are with all involved especially the injured law enforcement officer and their family.

BCA says more information will be made available after the preliminary investigation is complete.
