Justice Daniel Crothers to retire from North Dakota Supreme Court

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — North Dakota Supreme Court Justice Daniel Crothers has announced his intention to retire.
In a notice to Gov. Kelly Armstrong, Crothers says he will step down on February 28, 2026 after serving more than 20 years on the high court.
The Fargo-born judge earned his law degree from UND.
He clerked in the New Mexico Court of Appeals, worked in private practice and was an assistant state’s attorney in Walsh County.
Crothers was appointed to the Supreme Court by then-Gov. John Hoeven in 2005.
He was elected to 10-year terms in 2012 and again in 2022.
Gov. Armstrong can appoint a new justice or call for a special election to fill the term.
